Monday Sep 23, 2019
In Ep.34 of Runchatlive, we are honoured to be joined by Dr. Derek Griffin, a hugely important player in the dissemination of evidence based practice. Dr. Griffin discusses ways in which the assessment of runners has had to evolve in order to encompass developments in our understanding of pain.
Along with his expertise in the management of patients with complex chronic pain disorders and a PhD in the subject area, Dr. Griffin is also a highly respected runner with a 2hr 31 finish at this year's London Marathon. When it comes to understanding runners in pain, they don't come much more experienced than this guest.
We are also honoured to have Dr Griffin as one of ten speakers at the RCL Running Conference this October 30/31 in Brighton (UK). TICKETS still available: https://RCL2019.eventbrite.com.

Trust Me I'm A Physiotherapist with Nils Oudhuis
Monday Sep 02, 2019
Monday Sep 02, 2019
Special guest Nils Oudhuis, creator of awesome education website TrustMe-Ed and Facebook Group Trust me, I'm a Physiotherapist talks to us about his experiences training to become a Physiotherapist, and how the obstacles he discovered caused him to set up his Facebook Group and eventually the website.
The conversation focuses on the variety of CPD (Continued Professional Development) choices out there and to what extent the content they deliver to Physiotherapists & other health care professionals actually help in delivering a better service to runners suffering from injury & pain. We also take a look at misconceptions surrounding the topic of 'posture' and discuss how clearing up certain yths can be a good way to start becoming a more evidence based practitioner.
As with all episodes of RunChatLive, this episode was recorded LIVE 1.30pm GMT at www.facebook.com/runchatlive. All episodes are available as audio podcasts on Spotify, iTunes, Podbean, Stitcher, etc.

Finding The Right Therapist with Mike James and Malcolm Sloan
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
"Finding The Right Therapist" - with Mike James (a.k.a. The Endurance Physio) and Malcolm Sloan (founder of Sports Injury Fix).
The frustration of running injury is often doubled by seeing your hard earned dosh💰disappearing on therapy sessions. Finding a therapist who CAN help you is sadly not as easy as it sounds... and we all know treatment & advice can vary considerably depending on who you see. Fortunately, our TWO speakers are at hand to try and help make that a thing of the past!
In this episode, we see the return of Mike James (a.k.a. The Endurance Physio), this time joined by Malcolm Sloan, founder of Sports Injury Fix. Many therapists all over the UK use www.sportsinjuryfix.com as both a directory for listing their services AND a software system for taking bookings in clinic. Runners (and indeed anyone) are also able to use the website as a way of locating therapists local to their area with the desired set of skills for the particular issue they are having.
Runners, this episode highlights what YOU can do to successfully find a therapist who will get you back on track a.s.a.p. with minimum expenditure, and without seeing the same issue return within weeks. Therapists, we discuss what YOU can do to help your services get discovered by runners and stand out from the non-evidence based crowd.
As always, this episode was recorded LIVE at www.facebook.com/runchatlive on a Sunday (time varies depending on location of guest/s). Episodes are later uploaded to YouTube and as audio podcasts on Spotify, iTunes, Podbean, Stitcher, etc. Both formats can also be found on website https://www.runchatlive.com/

Training for 5k with Jeff Gaudette
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Jeff Gaudette, founder & head coach at Runners Connect, talks to us about how to train seriously for the 5k distance, something that a lot of runners fail to do either by choice (attracted more by the lights of a half or full marathon) or by making common mistakes. As a writer for the website I am obviously biased but if you have not done so already I seriosuly recommend you head over to www.runnersconnect.net and check out their coaching packages.
Jeff Gaudette has competed all over the world and recorded Olympic Trials qualifying times in the marathon and 10,000 meters. He began coaching in 2005 while a member of the Hansons-Brooks professional team. With a 13:59 PB over 5k and 2:22 at marathon, he founded 'RunnersConnect' in 2011 with the goal of helping runners find real, research-based answers to questions about their training and avoiding the latest fads.
As with all episodes of RunChatLive, this episode was recorded LIVE on Sunday at www.facebook.com/runchatlive. All recordings are also available as audio podcasts on Spotify, iTunes, Podbean, Stitcher, etc. For more details, visit https://www.runchatlive.

RCL Brighton Beard Company Special
Saturday Jul 20, 2019
Saturday Jul 20, 2019
In this 'Brighton Beard Company Special', we take some time away from running injury & performance to chat with Lloyd Kite, co-founder of our lovely sponsors 'The Brighton Beard Company '.
We should WARN you that to enjoy this episode you will therefore need to fit into one of the following categories:
• Have a beard / moustache
• Want a beard / moustache
• Be interested in beards / moustaches
Lloyd tells us about how the company started, from its beginnings in the kitchen of his partner's parents' house to what is today a 3000 square meter enterprise with offices upstairs & manufacturing downstairs. We hear of the development of the oils, balms, shampoo bars and brushes, as well as reason for the recent redesign this January past.
We hear some great about advice for anyone looking to grow a beard or who's struggling with getting past the first month or two, and we take look at beards throughout history, from prehistoric man through to pharaohs with false beards, Alexander The Great ordering his men to be clean shaven so that the enemy could not grab hold of their beards, plus the origins of World Beard Day (first Saturday of September).
We also take a moment to reflect on why the resurgence of beards in 2013 has not yet faded away, drawing some interesting parallels with the fact that in these modern times there has been a welcomed shift in the ability of men to no longer be embarrassed about talking about grooming products, smelling good and feeling confident. We are all too familiar with the tragic consequences that can occur when men feel unable to talk about their emotions.
We had a great time chatting with Lloyd and hope you enjoy listening back to our ramblings. Remember there is a 15% DISCOUNT on all products at www.thebrightonbeardcompany.co.uk when you use the code 'RCL15' at checkout.
For the clean shaven of you who felt alienated by this special episode, fear not as we'll be back to normal in pursuing Sundays. As always, you can join us LIVE by heading at the right time (see adverts on social media) to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/runchatlive. All episodes are later made available on YouTube and as audio podcasts on Acast, Spotify, iTunes, Podbean, Stitcher, etc.

Dr Rich Willy: Tips For The Older Runner
Tuesday Jul 16, 2019
Tuesday Jul 16, 2019
#Ep.29: "Tips For The Older Runner" with Dr Rich Willy
This is a HUGELY valuable episode for any 40+yrs old runner, plus anyone who works with runners of this age!
Many runners know all to well that hitting 40+ years brings changes; pace decreases, recovery takes longer, injury patterns change. The good news is there ARE specific things we can do to minimise the effects of age, plus some of the things we may be worrying about like 'wear & tear on the knees' are not actually true. All this and more will be explained by our very special guest, a leading authority in current running research, Dr. Richard Willy of University of Montana - School of Physical Therapy.
When it comes to running research, Dr. Rich Willy is one of the leaders of the pack. With a PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science and a masters of physical therapy, he has over 18 years clinical experience specializing in the treatment of the injured runner and is currently Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Therapy, University of Montana.
As the author of multiple published papers aimed at developing clinically effective treatments for patellofemoral pain syndrome, Achilles tendon injuries and tibial stress fractures, Dr. Willy is a highly respected presenter both nationally & internationally and his research has been featured in Runner’s World multiple times.
Though Rich is sadly not able to be a speaker at this year's RCL Running Conference, we're going to do everything we can to get him over next year! Details & tickets for this year's conference (October 30/31 in Brighton, UK) can be found at https://RCL2019.eventbrite.com.

Jason Fitzgerald: Strength Training For Runners
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
#Ep.28: "Strength Training For Runners" with Jason Fitzgerald
Jason Fitzgerald finished the 2008 New York Marathon in 2:44 but with a severe ITB injury. Unable to run for six months, Jason put his time into investigating ways to not just recover but also reduce risk of future injury. It seems he found it...
From 2009, Jason was able to run more than ever, achieving a 5+ minute PB at the Philadelphia Marathon in 2:39:32, 1st-place at the 2011 Moraine Hills Half Marathon, 2012 Maryland Warrior Dash and 2013 Potomac River Run Marathon. His secret… strength work.
In 2010, to celebrate & share his discovery, Jason created strengthrunning.com. It quickly grew to become one of the largest running blogs on the web with over 200,000 readers per month, and has been featured in Runner’s World, Competitor Magazine, USA Today, The Huffington Post, and most other major media.
As a USA Track & Field certified coach, Jason is the author of ‘101 Simple Ways to be a Better Runner’ and ‘Running for Health and Happiness’, both of which were #1 best-sellers in the running category on Amazon.
Sounds like the perfect guest to talk about strength training for runners!
Jason won't be speaking at this year's 'RCL International Running Conference 2019' October 30/31 in Brighton, UK (full details: https://RCL2019.eventbrite.com) but we are determined to get him next year!
